Get your scream on

It’s that time of year when Halloween starts to sneak up on us, and soon we’ll turn around and find it has appeared out of nowhere like Michael Myers in his creepy mask. It’s also the time when it’s fun to be scared, as long as we can get home afterward without any permanent damage. Fortunately, there are some places nearby, or worth a road trip, where you can do just that.

The Village of Horrors. Halloween Horror Nights. Located in Universal Studios, Orlando, it is a bit of a drive but a great excuse for a road trip. The website warns that the attractions are not suitable for children under 13. Sounds like the start of scary experience and a good way to lose your voice. Universal Studios is turned into a haunted nightmare from Sept. 23 — Oct. 31. There are eight different haunted houses, six scare zones and two bound–to–be–creepy live shows. For more information, go to www.halloweenhorrornights.com.

Fright Nights. Located at the South Florida Fairgrounds in West Palm Beach, it promises to scare you with the home for the criminally insane, your worst childhood fears come to life and the village of Hex where they try to steal your soul. Open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from Oct. 13 — 20. For more information, go to www.myfrightnights.com.

House of Horror Amusement Park. Located in the east parking lot of Miami International Mall, the Freak–fest promises to bring the dead and unimaginable to life. That may sound like just another day in Miami, but here you can find a haunted house and carnival rides from Sept. 29 — Oct. 31. For more information, go to www.houseofhorrorpark.com.

Wherever you choose to get your scream on, it’s sure to be an exciting night. Just make sure you don’t have to give a class presentation the next day, you may not have a voice left.
