Player profile: Molly Sigerich

Senior volleyball player Molly Sigerich has been playing the sport she loves since she was eight years old. Even when she was at basketball practice, Sigerich would find herself trying to play volleyball instead.

Despite a losing record this season, Sigerich said it was one of her favorite seasons.

“We got better as the year went on,” she said. “Once we stopped caring about our record, we played so much better, and this was one of my favorite seasons.”

Her most cherished moment from this past season was the team’s Senior Night game on Nov. 12. Sigerich said the atmosphere that night was amazing. What made that night that much more special for Sigerich was having her parents come in from Chicago to watch the game.

“They were here for Senior Night, and that’s all I wanted was to have them here. I was so happy that they could share it with me,” said Sigerich.

Besides volleyball, what is it that Molly Sigerich loves? The answer would be the Chicago Cubs.

She said that being a Cubs fan teaches her loyalty and patience, and no matter how many times her team comes up short, she will always support them. Sigerich is confident the team will one day end the World Series drought.

“It will happen. One day we will win the World Series, and it’s just going to be the best feeling in the world. It’s so worth it,” said Sigerich.

Sigerich absolutely loves the fact that you can find Cubs fans anywhere in the country. She said, “I’ve gone to Marlins games when they play the Cubs and there [are] more Cubs fans there. They’re everywhere you go. It’s just like the unspoken language, you see them and you can talk to them. We just love our team so much.”

She is a sport and recreation management major and hopes to continue an internship with the Tampa Bay Yankees, as well as pursue a Master’s in Business Administration.
