National Unemployment Rate Drops to Lowest in Four Years
On Oct. 5, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the nation’s unemployment rate for September dropped to its lowest since Jan. 2009. The rate stood between 8.1-8.3 percent in 2012, but at a decline of .03 percent in one month, it’s now 7.8 percent, approximately 12.1 million unemployed. The government said the economy created 114,000 jobs thus far. October’s rates will be released on November 2.
Memorial service for Professor Edward O. Keith
There will be a memorial service in honor of Edward O. Keith, Ph.D., associate professor in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, on Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. in the Performance Theatre in Don Taft University Center. Keith passed away on Sept. 14 at the age of 60. He had been with NSU since 1986, and taught classes on human nutrition, clinical chemistry and biology. The Ed Keith Memorial Scholarship has been established in his honor by the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences. Contributions can be made through the Office of the Dean.
NSU Hosts Practice MCAT
Preparing for medical school? NSU will host a practice Medical College Admission Test on campus. The practice MCAT will take place in the Parker Building, room 148, on Nov. 10. All undergraduate students will be granted a $20 discount upon registration. The registration deadline is Nov. 7. NSU Becomes an LSAT Testing Site
NSU is now a testing site for the Law School Admissions Test. The next available testing date is Feb. 9. This is a first-come first-served basis, so reserve a seat by registering on www.lsac.org. The shark shuffle
The NSU Shark Shuffle is coming up on Oct. 14. The event is held on campus annually to raise money for awarding student scholarships. It is open to the entire NSU community, along with students and staff of the University School. The Shuffle is a 5-kilometer, or 3.1-mile, race around the NSU campus.
