The Office of Career Development will hold its annual Internship and Job Fair on Feb. 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the second floor of Don Taft University Center’s basketball courts. Representatives of over 50 companies, including several Fortune 500 employers, will speak to students about full-time and part-time jobs, along with internship positions, available in South Florida.
The fair is open to students of all majors and interests, according to Diane Klein, assistant director of employer relations and internships.
“We have companies that are looking for biology, to computer science, to communication majors and all business majors.” said Klein.
Klein encourages students looking for internships to attend the fair, as many human resource professionals will be in attendance, in addition to the opportunity to network and scope out possible positions.
Klein said, “If you are looking for an internship now, or even for a year from now, you should attend, so that when you graduate, you have a plan.”
Among the participating companies are several “top places to work or start a career,” as named by the South Florida Business Journal. AOD Software, a software systems management company for nursing homes and assisted living facilities, is currently ranked as the number five best place to work. Representatives of public trading company FIS Global, which is ranked 425 on the Fortune 500 list and is the world’s leader in payment technology, will also be in attendance. Other companies seeking business students include WMX Group Holdings Inc., Mass Mutual Financial Group, MSM Packaging Solutions and Northwestern Mutual.
In addition to the many opportunities for business students, the Peace Corps, Cano Medical Dental World Fuel Services Corporation and the Sun-Sentinel will be present to discuss volunteer and internship positions.
NSU Human Resources will also discuss full-time on-campus positions. However, campus jobs that are designed for student employment will be discussed only at the fall internship and job fair.
Business attire and an NSU ID are required for attendance, and students are also advised to bring copies of their most recent resumes.
Career advisers are available to provide assistance with resume and cover letter writing in addition to interview skills and job searching, all year round in the Office of Career Development.
Students can stop by room 4036 in the Alvin Sherman Library for a one-on-one 15-minute appointment, Mondays through Fridays, 11 a.m to 1 p.m. To make an hour-long appointment, or to learn more about the upcoming internship and job fair, call the Office of Career Development at 954-262 7201, email career@nova.edu, or visit www.nova.edu/career.
