Nova Southeastern University mourns passing of E. Clay Shaw, Jr.

E Clay  Shaw Jr.Former U.S. Representative and NSU Board of Trustee member E. Clay Shaw, Jr. passed away on Step. 10 after a long battle with lung cancer.  Shaw served as a member of NSU’s Board of Trustees from January 26, 2009 until his passing.

Shaw was born in Miami and received business (1961) and law (1966) degrees from Stetson University.  Shaw served as chief prosecutor for the city of Ft. Lauderdale from 1968-69 and as an assistant associate municipal judge from 1969-1971.  In 1980, Shaw was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives where he served the 12th, 15th and 22nd districts of Florida.   In 1996, Shaw was named the Florida Congressional Delegation Chairman and served in that role until his departure in 2007.

In 2008, Shaw was named a Great Floridian by the Florida Department of State.
