It’s time for a masquerade

The H. Wayne Huizinga School of Business and Entrepreneurship will host the Fall Ball, its second networking ball for business graduate students and their guests at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino from 8 to 11 p.m. on Nov. 22.

Taylor Guice, second-year graduate student in business management and director of marketing and public relations of the Graduate Business Student Association (GBSA), helped sell tickets at the first networking ball in May at the Signature Grand and hopes that this ball will be even more successful.

“The main focus will be on building a community, talking to new people, making new friends and providing a way to meet professors in a setting outside the classroom,” said Guice.
Guice hopes that attendees will speak with professors about internship or professional opportunities. He also views the event as an opportunity for business students within different programs to meet one another and connect as a community.

The ball will be masquerade-themed and the venue will be decorated in bright, metallic colors. Attendees must dress formally and are encouraged to wear masks. Guests can bring masks or pick up one at the door. A three-course meal will be served and the event will feature a disc jockey and a photo booth.

Lorena Rios, second-year graduate student in business health administration, said that a free raffle will be held, with prizes provided by local businesses including Home Depot and Tina’s Tanning Salon. When students sign in at that ball, they’ll be given tickets which they may use to enter themselves into the raffles for the prizes of their choice. Rios said the raffle is a chance for companies to market themselves, while rewarding students.

Tamara Viera, second-year business management graduate student and GBSA’s director of events, said that participants of the first ball gave it positive reviews and feedback, but she hopes that the upcoming ball will be even more successful, particularly with the venue change.

“It was such a hit among students that we are hoping, since this will be held at the Hard Rock, the events and the music will be even more exhilarating,” said Viera.

GBSA expects 300 people to attend the ball and they’ll be limiting ticket sales to that number to keep guests comfortable in the ballroom space. Tickets are $15 each and are being sold in the Graduate Business Student Association office on the third floor of the Carl DeSantis Building.
