The celebrity apple doesn’t fall far

Celebrities come in all shapes and sizes and they live in a world that most of us barely understand. They fly off to exotic places on a whim. They name their children peculiar names and, for some reason, they always look perfect.

It’s a mysterious maze and a wonderful web that keeps us on our toes. Most of their lives are under a giant spotlight, but something that some celebrities don’t always broadcast is that their tight circle is overrun by celebrities who have something pretty important in common: DNA.

Apparently, being a movie star, great athlete, fabulous singer or just plain rich is genetic. Some celebrities broadcast their family ties so much so that we’d have to be living under a rock to not know they are related like the Kardashians and the Jenners, Brandy and Ray Jay, the Olsen twins, or Beyoncé and Solange. But there are some that may surprise you.

Zoey and Emily Deschanel are sisters who basically took over Fox with their hit TV shows “New Girl,” starring Zoey, and “Bones,” starring Emily. They may not look alike when apart but if they are standing next to each other and you look very closely, you can see the resemblance.

Liam and Chris

Chris and Liam Hemsworth are brothers and are famous for their lead roles in popular movies like the “Thor” films, starring Chris, and “The Hunger Games,” films, starring Liam. They are also from a gene pool that produces ridiculously good-looking men.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers v New York Giants

We are seeing double with these brothers. They are identical twins and what they say about twins thinking alike must be true because they both became NFL superstars. Tiki Played for the New York Giants and is now a well known TV personality. His brother Ronde played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Emma and Julia

Julia Roberts needs no introduction. She has starred in more movies than I can count and is brilliant in every role that she plays. Her most recent film was “August: Osage County” in which she starred with Meryl Streep, but she is most famous for romantic comedies like “Pretty Woman” and “Runaway Bride.” Emma Roberts is Julia’s talented niece and started her acting career at a young age in a kids TV series called “Unfabulous” and recently scored a role in “American Horror Story.”

Chris and Tony

Chris and Tony Rock are brothers who are no strangers to the world of comedy. Chris paved the way for his younger brother by becoming a well-known comedian and starring in and producing films like “Down to Earth” and “Head of State” and TV shows like “Everybody Hates Chris.” But Tony holds his own in his comedic career that includes being on Comedy Central, co-starring in “All of Us,” and having his own TV show called “The Tony Rock Project.”

Dave and James

These brothers are another example of an older brother who paved the way for his younger brother. James Franco has starred in numerous roles in “Pineapple Express,” “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” and the “Spider-Man” trilogy. His younger brother Dave is an up-and-coming actor best known for his roles “21 Jump Street” and “Now You See Me.”

Jenny and Melissa

These cousins started out in very different careers but ended up on similar paths. Jenny started out as a Playboy model, but is now a comedic actress and currently a host on ABC’s “The View.” Melissa McCarthy is well known as a comedic actress in shows like “Gilmore Girls” and movies like “Bridesmaids,”  “Identity Thief” and “The Heat.” Just thinking about these movies makes me laugh.

Kirk and Cameron

Candace Cameron Bure will forever be known as DJ Tanner from the popular television series “Full House,” but who knew that Candace is actually Kirk Cameron’s younger sister? Kirk played Mike Seaver on the also popular “Growing Pains.”

Colin and Tom

Colin Hanks, the eldest son of Tom Hanks, is basically Tom’s mini-me. Tom is famous for his roles in “Forrest Gump,” “Saving Private Ryan” and, most recently, “Captain Phillips.” Colin played Anna Faris’ love interest in “House Bunny” and has guest starred in popular shows like “Dexter” and “Mad Men.”

Meryl and Mamie

Speaking of Meryl Streep, apparently she has a daughter who looks just like her. Mammie Gummer is an actress who recently starred in her own canceled-too-early TV series “Emily Owens M.D.,” which I loved. Streep is another one of those actresses who needs no introduction — but, if I must, she has mastered starring roles in “Julie and Julia,” “The Iron Lady” and “The Devil Wears Prada.” The list goes on and on.

Rashida and Quincy

Quincy Jones is a legendary record producer and composer. He has worked with other legends like Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson and Ray Charles. If that’s not enough, I don’t know what is. His daughter Rashida Jones is a talented actress and singer, perhaps best known for playing Ann Perkins on “Parks and Recreation.” Her mother is actress and model Peggy Lipton, known for the 60s show “Mod Squad.”
