Shark Speak: Do you prefer to work individually or in groups?

Linda Kornienko

Junior biology major

“I prefer to work individually. For me, it’s easier to work around my own schedule instead of having to meet at a time that’s convenient for everybody. It’s easier if I’m free for 30 minutes and I can work and not worry about only being able to work on it later.”

Blake Giroux

Junior nursing major

“I like to work individually because I feel like I get the most out of it. Sometimes with groups I feel like I get distracted more often.”

Justus Jean-Baptist

Freshman computer science major

“It depends on the project. Most of the time I work by myself, but I’m OK with working with a group. When it’s a big project, then it’s better to split it.”

Karicia Florestal

Freshman bioloy major

“In a group. You don’t have too much pressure on you, and sometimes when you see other people working with you, it’s easier for you to get motivated.”

Brianna Southern

Master’s student in conflict analysis and resolution

“I guess it depends on what it is, but for my program I actually prefer groups because I like to get other people’s opinions and analysis. I just like to talk to people.”

Usman Saeed

MBA in finance student

“Individually because, quite honestly, it gives you more of a chance to focus on the task at hand. In groups, there might be a bit of interaction on the same concept but there might not be any action to get anything done.”
