News Briefs for 10/28/14

Urgent vehicle recall
On Oct. 20, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a recall of nearly 5 million vehicles due to faulty airbags that were supplied by Japanese supplier Takata. The airbags contain faulty inflators that can rupture and release metal fragments. The defect seems to be especially prone in hot climates, such as Florida and Hawaii. BMW, Chrysler, Ford, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Toyota and Mitsubishi all have vehicles that may be affected. To find out if your vehicle is affected, visit safercar.gov/Vehicle+Owners/VIN-lookup-msg and enter your vehicle identification number, or visit nhtsa.gov and search for “Consumer advisory: vehicle owners with defective airbags urged to take immediate action.”
