Identify yourself in social media
The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences will host, “Me, You, and My Avatar: Composing Real Identities in Virtual World,” on Nov. 6 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Cotilla Gallery of the Alvin Sherman Library. Assistant Professor Eric Mason will discuss the role of social media in how users identify themselves. The event is part of the Faculty Lecture Series and is free and open to the public. Full moon kayak trip
The RecPlex will host a kayak trip at the Blue Moon Outdoor Center on Nov. 7 from 5 to 10 p.m. Students who are interested in attending the event, must pay a fee of $25 which includes transportation, park entry, the full moon tour and a bonfire with s’mores. Learn about climate change
The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences will host the lecture, “Coral Dispersal Dynamics: New Insights into Patterns of Connectivity,” as part of the Climate-Sustainability Lecture Series, on Nov. 10 from noon to 1 p.m. in the second-floor auditorium of the Mailman-Hollywood Building. Assistant Professor Joana Figueiredo will present the lecture and will discuss the environmental factors that are affecting the recovery rate of coral populations. Watch a student performance
NSU’s student instrumental group, the Pro Musica Chamber Ensemble, will perform in the Don Taft University Center Performance Theatre on Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Adjunct Professors Phil Bracken and Casey Maltese will direct the performance, which will include Percy Grainger’s “Sheperd’s Hey,” John Philip Sousa’s “Semper Fidelis,” and Gustav Holst’s “Suite in F.” The performance is free and open to the public. Register for travel study
The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences is accepting applications for travel study courses for the winter 2015 semester. The courses include Comparative Criminal Justice with a trip to Spain, Medical London: Culture and Context with a trip to London and Amazonia Cloud Forest Biogeography with a trip to Ecuador. Applications are due Nov. 14, Nov. 20 and Dec. 5, respectively. For more information on funding or scholarship opportunities, contact the Office of the Dean at 954-262-8408.
