Is anyone else still full from Thanksgiving? I know I am! I think being in warm weather made me eat a lot more than usual. I’m not used to it being late November and not needing a heavy jacket when I walk outside. To be honest, it did not feel like Thanksgiving and it still doesn’t feel like the holiday season. An adjustment to Florida is one thing but an adjustment to Florida during the holiday season is another.
The weather is warm, the sun is out, and there are palm trees all around. Most of the time I forget it’s technically winter. I can say I definitely do not miss the snow and the freezing cold weather but I do miss the feel of the holidays. Maybe it’s because I’m not used to it or maybe it’s because of how Christmas and the holidays are portrayed in the media.
When December and the holiday season hits I think of snow, cold weather, Christmas music, hot chocolate, and fire places. When I step outside in Florida it just does not feel like that and I don’t know if I’m happy or sad about it. You don’t realize until that the little things you are so used to make a big difference when you are somewhere else.
As Christmas lights go up and trees are lit, Florida is slowly becoming a winter wonderland. But I know for me Florida will never give me the same feeling around the holidays as back home up north does. No matter how much I hate the snow and cold weather, it’s what completes the holidays for me. I don’t know if anybody else feels the same way but I really would like to hear your opinion on it! If you would like to share please email me at ak1030@nova.edu. Good luck on your last week of classes!
Keep smiling, Amanda
