Learn about environmental variables

The next presentation of the Climate-Sustainability Lecture Series, presented by Parikhit Sinha, is “Environmental Variables Affecting the Performance of Large-Scale Solar Photovoltaic Power Plants” and will be on March 23 from 12:10-1 p.m. in the second-floor auditorium of the Mailman-Hollywood Building. Gather ‘round the Peace Place

Community Resolution Services, Social Justice Roundtable and the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Graduate SGA will host the Second Annual Story Café on March 26 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in Room 2053 of the Alvin Sherman Library. At the Café, attendees can share stories through oral presentations or through other mediums, including poetry and photographs, related to this year’s theme of gender. New organization kicks off first year with a win

NSU’s chapter of Collegiate DECA, an organization that aims to prepare leaders and entrepreneurs for marketing, finance, hospitality and management careers, received top honors at the State Career Development Conference in Orlando, FL on March 5 and 6. Nine members competed in the conference and awards included second place in Accounting, Business to Business Marketing, Financial Statement Analysis, Sports and Entertainment Marketing and Sales Management. They also received positions in top 10 in Banking and Financial Services, Business Ethics and Restaurant and Food Service Management. Because of their awards, the students are now eligible to compete at the International Career Development Conference in Washington, D.C. in April.

Get a head start into the job market

The Office of Career Development, along with several student organizations, will help students learn about internships and career opportunities in South Florida with “Shark Advantage: A Networking Event” on March 31 from 5-8 p.m. in the Huizenga Sales Institute. Top-level executives from companies, including City Furniture, NCL Cruise Lines and Kauffman & Rossin, will attend, as well as NSU alumni. Get the conversation started with CAHSS

David Kilroy, professor in the Department of History and Political Science, will discuss “Remembering the 1916 Rising: Truth and Power in Historical Commemoration” on March 31 from noon-1 p.m. in the Alvin Sherman Library. The discussion is the third in the semester’s Intellectual Conversations series, titled “Truth and Power,” which is hosted by the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. The event is free and open to the public.

Wells Fargo executive to speak on campus

Jose “Joe” Atkinson, president of the South Florida region of Wells Fargo and company, will speak about his career experience on March 31 at 10:30 a.m. in Room 5000 of the Carl DeSantis Building. Atkinson has more than 30 years of banking experience and has served on numerous leadership boards. He will present as part of the Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship’s Distinguished Lecture Series. The free event is open to the NSU community, as well as the general public.
