If you have not heard, “Allegiant,” the third installment of the popular “Divergent” series by Veronica Roth is now in theaters. After the last movie, there was a lot of skepticism regarding the film portrayal of the series’ second book, “Insurgent.” However, the movie made a huge comeback from the second film. From the moment the movie began, you could see the obvious differences between the second film and this one. Anyone who loves action and adventure, as well as the fans of the series, would love this film.
“Allegiant” starts after Tris, played by Shailene Woodley, learns about the world outside her secluded society, which she was led to believe was uncivilized for many years. She, along with her boyfriend Four, played by Theo James, brother Caleb, played by Ansel Elgort, best friend Christina, played by Zoe Kravitz, and foe Peter, played by Miles Teller, ventures out of her society, where she meets David, played by Jeff Daniels, who is behind the creation of divergents, the people who don’t fit into the career molds set forth by their world. Tris must now decide if she is going to help David, who wants to produce more divergents, or save her society, which is about to go into war.
This time around, it felt as if the directors took their time with filming. Although there were minor things that were different from the book, it was not overdone to the point where the story line was unrecognizable. The directors stayed true to what the storyline was about, which overall made it easier to connect to the film.
Something else that stood out about the film was how in-sync the actors were to the characters in the book. Woodley and James really hit it out of the park with their chemistry; their roles were powerful every time they shared a scene together. The fact that they had conflict, despite their love for each other, shows that not every relationship is perfect.
And Teller is the scene-stealer that you can’t get enough of. He brings his own spin to Peter, while keeping the familiar traits everyone knows. The action scenes were amazing and well-put together. Every action scene was one of the best parts of the movie and brought just as much excitement watching the movie.
Although many people are skeptical about seeing this film, go see it anyways. This film is action packed and is a good movie overall if you’re not comparing it to the book.
