2017 NFL Hall of Fame nominees
The NFL announced the Class of 2017 Hall of Fame nominations Sep. 14 with some big name, first-time ballot players on the list. LaDainian Tomlinson and Hines Ward were among the 94 players and coaches nominated. Players who were previously nominated that are back in the mix are Chad Johnson, Donovan McNabb and Jason Taylor. Terrell Davis, Terrell Owens, Morten Anderson, Kurt Warner and Edgerrin James were nominated for the second year in a row.
Memphis Grizzlies pay tribute to MLK Jr. with new uniforms
The National Civil Rights Museum held a “Night of Opportunity” conversation on Sep. 14 to announce the release of a uniform honoring Martin Luther King Jr., who was assassinated in Memphis on April 4, 1968. The Memphis Grizzlies will don the new 2016-2017 MLK50 pride uniforms during their MLK Jr. celebration game on Jan. 15, where they will take on the Chicago Bulls.
Bill prompts NCAA to change championship game locations
Following suit with other sports leagues, the NCAA ACC division has decided to move its championship games to a neutral site outside North Carolina in response to their House Bill 2 proposal. House Bill 2 limits the legal protections of the LGBTQ communities in North Carolina. According to the ACC conference council of presidents, as reported by ESPN, “The conference is strongly committed to upholding the values of equal rights and non-discrimination.”
New Orleans Saints release CJ Spiller
Yahoo Sports confirmed that the New Orleans Saints have released veteran running back CJ Spiller after signing him to a four year $16 million contract last year. So far no other teams have shown interest in adding CJ Spiller to their offense.
