Honestly, South Florida is a great place to live and work, but The Current staff occasionally dreams about visiting other parts of the world. Here’s where we’d travel if we could go anywhere.
Jacqueline Lytle, co editor-in-chief, said Thailand
I’m pretty torn between where I could travel if I had no restrictions. I’ve always dreamed of visiting Greece because it’s quaint and beautiful with many houses climbing the hills. It’s half a lie that I like walking, but I would love it if I went there. However, I think I would choose to visit Thailand, mostly due to my obsession with elephants and wanting to interact with them, but also because there is so much culture to experience in that country.
Grace Ducanis, copy editor, said Norway
When I travel, I’m more about the scenery than the history. Norway has both. Ever since I read a book about the Norwegian fjords, I’ve wanted to see them. All the pictures I’ve seen are so beautiful, and maybe that’s setting myself up for disappointment, but I don’t care. Also, I love the cold, and from what I’ve heard, Norway has plenty of it. Also Vikings are pretty cool.
Rachael Hirstein, news editor, said Japan
I really want to visit Japan. The mix of new and old there is so unique with the latest technology in one city and ancient temples in another. Sushi is one of my favorite foods and nothing would make me happier than sitting in a sushi bar. I really want to visit the Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo because I am a huge Pokémon nerd and want to find all the rare Ditto plushies, but I also want to see the cherry blossom trees in person and walk through temples.
Jenna Kopec, features editor, said Poland
If I could travel anywhere, I would go to Poland. I know that sounds kind of crazy, but my family’s ancestors are Polish and for that reason I’ve always had a really strong desire to see Warsaw. I’ve also been trying to learn the language off and on. So, visiting the country might motivate me towards that goal.
Benjamin Underhill, arts and entertainment editor, said Germany
It has been a long-standing dream of mine to visit Germany. The appeal of a bustling foreign city like Berlin interests me. Because I am deeply interested in history, I would also want to go to the Auschwitz Museum, among other World War II locations. I would definitely want to go out to eat at a bunch of different places so I could experience the local cuisine, and perhaps go to a performing arts performance.
Carli Lutz, chief of visual design, said New Zealand
If I could travel anywhere I would, for sure, go to New Zealand. It’s such a beautiful country and has always been a place near and dear to my heart. As a Lord of the Rings fangirl, I’d finally get to see where the movies were filmed in person. Plus, hiking up the side of the real-life Mount Doom and possibly throwing a ring into it is at the very top of my bucket list.
Morgan Thorn, business manager, said Italy
If I could go anywhere, I would want to travel through Italy. It just seems like such a beautiful country with so much culture. There are lakes and mountains, but also beautiful beaches. Also, who doesn’t want all the pasta and gelato they can eat? I’ve never been out of the country and couldn’t think of a better place to start.
Danielle Pucillo, multimedia manager, said New Zealand
I would definitely go to New Zealand. Not only does it have an array of exotic wildlife, but the views are amazing. One of my favorite directors, Peter Jackson, filmed The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the slapstick horror comedy “Dead Alive” on location there. As a film geek and nature freak, New Zealand is paradise.
