Tips to treat yo’self on a college budget

Tsugumi Ohba once said, “College is fun as long as you don’t die,” and while your college experience might not feel that drastic, you might be feeling a bit stressed as the middle of the semester approaches. While saying you need a break may seem like good advice, it can be hard to take a break, especially on a college budget and schedule.

Nevertheless, there are plenty of ways to treat yourself without breaking the bank or disrupting the balance.

Pamper your paws

According to CareMount Medical, both feet contain 25 percent of your bones, 18 percent of your joints and six percent of your muscles. So, by taking care of your feet, you take care of a large portion of your body. Luckily, NSU has a stone path in the medicine garden designed for you to walk right out of your problems. Kick off your shoes and walk across those stones. Each shape targets a different area of your foot, so don’t rush. When you’re done you can give those feet some more TLC with a little heat. Head home and soak them in warm water, while you give yourself some time to decompress.

 Swing with some sweets

Nutrition is important, but this isn’t about healthy eating. Besides, a little sugar in moderation never hurt anyone. So, go ahead and buy your favorite mini pack of candy. Outtakes offers bags of mini Snickers and almond kisses if you don’t want to leave campus. Pop a few sweets as you listen to some of your favorite songs. Spotify has endless playlists, but if you’re looking for a chill compilation, here’s a playlist to help you kick back: playlists.net/chilloutplaylist.

Fruit-ify your face

Making your skin look poppin’ doesn’t have to be pricey. Facemasks can be a great way to detox from your day and, thankfully, you don’t have to rob an Ulta for a good mask. Different grocery items can fit your facemask needs. Egg whites can be a great mask for folks with oily skin to calm down after the gym, and bananas make a great substitute for moisturizing facemasks, according to Bellatory

 Color your cares away

Coloring pages have made a comeback in the adult world as a self-help and therapy method to de-stress. Whether you’re freaking out or geeking out over your new pack of markers, setting aside a little arts and crafts time can be the perfect way to reward yourself. Good news: You don’t have to go to Target or Michael’s and buy one of the arguably overpriced coloring books for sale there. Go to coloring-pages-adults.com for free coloring pages whenever you may need.

College probably isn’t going to kill you, like Ohba suggested, but it can wear you down. As you move deeper into the semester, don’t be afraid to give yourself a break and breathe.
