Georgetown fires basketball coach

According to the Washington Post, an era of Georgetown has come to a close with the firing of John Thompson III. On March 23, Georgetown decided to fire Thompson, bringing an end to the legacy he and his father created, as they both coached at Georgetown. Thompson spent 13 years as the head coach at Georgetown, where he helped guide the Hoyas to Final Four appearances in 2004 and 2007. The 2016-2017 season proved to be a rough season for the Hoyas, as they finished with a record of 14-18 and lost in the first round of the Big East tournament to St. John’s. Thompson finished his tenure with a 278-151 record.  

Chicago Bears sign former first round pick Mark Sanchez

The Bears have signed former first round draft pick Mark Sanchez to a one-year contract, according to NFL.com. This will be Sanchez’s fourth team in five years. Over his career he has played in 72 games with a 56.7 completion rate and passed for 86 touchdowns along with 86 interceptions.

US baseball defeats Puerto Rico to win the World Baseball Classic

After a couple of hard weeks of playing some of the best baseball teams in the world, the U.S. baseball team was able to win its first World Baseball Classic in Dodgers Stadium in front of 51,000 fans, according to USA Today. The U.S. defeated Puerto Rico 8-0.  

Phoenix Suns trot out the youngest lineup in NBA history

According to Sports Illustrated, on March 24 the Phoenix Suns trotted out the youngest team in NBA history, with a combined average age of 21 years and 14 days, when they played the Brooklyn Nets. The starting lineup included Alex Len at 23 years old, followed by Tyler Ulis, who turned 21 in January, Devin Booker, 20, Derrick Jones, 20, and Marquese Chriss, 19. However, the Suns went on to lose the game 126-98.
