NBC 6 College Week 2017

Tuesday, Oct.17, NBC 6 South Florida kicked off College Week by visiting NSU to speak about our medical schools and take a look at our athletic department. Their main focus was our groundbreaking research in the College of Pharmacy and their efforts to fight back against the opioid epidemic. The college has created a virtually indestructible pill, which will discourage opioid addicts from using these drugs to get high. Ari Odzer, news anchor for NBC 6, covered this story and also interviewed Johannes Vieweg, the dean of the newly accredited College of Allopathic Medicine.

“College Week is an initiative our station put together a few years ago to highlight what the local colleges are doing in our community, “ said Ari Odzer

“It’s important for our community to know that Nova Southeastern University not only provides fantastic benefits as a students here but to show growth in fields of the industry — whether that’s health, business, communications. The advantages of going to this university that some might not know about is fantastic. It’s a great partnership between NSU and ourselves.” said Chris Fisher, sports broadcaster at NBC 6.

Many students came out to show their Shark Pride at this special event. The Sharkettes, Radio X, SUTV and Razor as well as students from many organizations were there to support this fun broadcast.

Justin Jackson, freshman Sports and Recreation Management major had this to say, “It’s an exciting time and it’s exciting to see our school broadcasted on the news. Since we are a small school, it’s great that we get this recognition”.

Maegan Phipps, freshman medical sonography major had this to add, “It’s good to have the public know what we are actually doing. To have this showcased to the community is great.”
