NSU’s Office of Student Media and Office of Student Leadership and Civil Engagement have partnered to host the first ever Student Leadership Multimedia Conference on Jan. 27, to take place in the Rick Case Arena, UC Pit.
In previous years, solely the Office of Student Media hosted the Multimedia Conference, where students could attend to multiple sessions given by speakers, including faculty and staff from NSU and guest speakers involved in a professional environment. To end the conference, students could ask questions and interact with a panel of professionals working in the media.
Likewise, the Office of Student Leadership and Civic Engagement hosted the Leadership Conference. The conference was a day-long event, in which students could attend sessions similar in format to those of the Multimedia Conference. Now, the two conferences will be combined into one huge, special event for students.
A Leadership and Multimedia Internship Fair will also take place during the conference. The internship fair will provide students an opportunity for networking and interacting with business people and media outlet representatives, to learn more about the work environment and for attendees to ask questions.
In preparation for the 2017 Multimedia Conference, Michelle Manley, director of the Student Media at NSU, said, “The Multimedia Conference is not only a great opportunity for students to network and exchange ideas with media professionals but also provides us a chance to show off our talented students.”
Attendees can choose which sessions to join in the Leadership Multimedia Conference. Multiple sessions are held simultaneously, and students are provided with a detailed program during the check-in process. They are free to attend the sessions that are most appealing to them. Bringing a notepad and a pen is recommended, in case attendees would like to take notes.
The event starts at 9:30 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m., with check-in starting at 9. Lunch will be served for those in attendance. NSU students, community college and high school students may attend the conference. Those interested in attending can register at nova.edu/studentmedia/leadmediaconference/registration.html, by Jan. 19. Registration for NSU students is free.
