Open Expressions hosts Poetry and Painting February 5, 2018October 18, 2018 Skylyr VanderveerFeatures, Online Exclusives Open Expressions hosted Poetry and Painting on Jan. 31. This new event allowed students to be creative by painting as students shared their poems. Open Expressions provided food to those who attended. Students were also provided with paints, brushes, and canvases to work on. This student brought her own art project to work on as she painted. These students were feeling inspired as they listened to poetry. This group of students is getting inspired from a picture. The room was filled with people creating beautiful pieces of art. Sharing is caring! These students were sharing paints and brushes as they worked. These ladies were enjoying themselves as they painted their flowers. Alyssa Yarbough, vice president of Open Expressions, opened the floor to everyone who wanted to share a poem. Tyrianna Richards performed a beautiful poem. It was this student’s first time performing and she did a fabulous job. This student felt inspired after listening to the amazing poems recited by performing students. A beautiful work of art done by a student at the event. These students loved working as they listened to poetry. This student was excited to show Utoy Wong, president of Open Expressions, the work that he did. This student’s beautiful poem inspired many. These students were feeling proud of the work they did and posted pictures on social media. This student performed her poem called ”The Key” As the night went on, more and more students shared their work. These students had a lot of fun painting. Mike Lynn also shared a work of his. His piece was made just a few moments before he went on stage to perform. Skylyr Vanderveer felt inspired while documenting this event and being surrounded by creative minds so she decided to produce a painting of her own.
