Events to look forward to if you’re spending the summer in SOFLO

Maybe you’re taking summer classes, or maybe you live in the 954 year-round. Either way, there’s a benefit to living where everyone else vacations and it’s that you can always find memorable events that aren’t too far away. If you’re not the best planner, we’ve got you covered. Here are some signature South Florida events for you to look forward to this summer.

Key West Songwriters Festival, May 9-13

If you love music, then you’ll probably love the Key West Songwriters Festival, which will be celebrating it’s 23rd anniversary this year. It’s a five day event with more than 100 performances — most of which are free. For shows that require ticket purchase, sales began on March 24. Key Largo Original Music Festival, May 17-20

Can’t make it to Key West in time? No worries. There’s also the Key Largo Original Music Festival, which boasts four days of original music set across five stages. Wilton Manors Stonewall Pride Parade and Festival, June 16

Known as the largest LGBT pride event in the greater Fort Lauderdale area, the Wilton Manors parade and festival has plenty to offer. Aside from the parade that starts at 4 p.m., the event features local performers and DJs throughout the day. It also hosts a festival marketplace that features an array of local vendors. Miami Salsa Congress, July 25-29

Salsa-lovers, rejoice. The Miami Salsa Congress is returning for its 17th anniversary for five days of Latin music and dance. The congress is a myriad of workshops and live performances, so there’s a little something for everyone. You have to buy tickets for this event, but luckily, there are different pricing packages. Afro-Cuban Dance Festival, August 16-18

Hosted by IFE-ILE, a non-profit dedicated to the preservation of Afro-Cuban culture, is Miami’s Afro Cuban Dance Festival. Perfect for anyone who loves to dance, the festival features dance workshops, a street fair and performances. Registration information isn’t available yet, but will be soon on ife-ile.org.
