If I spend the first two weeks of the semester trying to find the required textbooks for free online or at the cheapest possible price, it would be reasonable to assume that I don’t want to spend any more money than I have to for that class. Why should we pay the extra $70 or so for the homework program to pass the class even though we are already paying about $1,000 to take that class? It is ridiculous that professors want students to buy subscriptions to websites to be able to do homework that is necessary to pass the class. In what insane, post-apocalyptic dystopia do we live in that we are required to buy the program to do my homework to pass a class. Programs like Pearson’s “MyLab Math” and “Mastering Biology and Chemistry” clearly show Pearson’s monopoly on the education system. While you can bundle the textbook and the course homework it is still outrageously expensive. Of course, I don’t want to pay more money to pass the class, that’s why I found the textbooks and lab manuals online for free.
