Postpartum depression drug approved by FDA

The first drug for postpartum depression was approved by the FDA last Tuesday. The new treatment is expected to provide immediate relief for postpartum depression. According to The New York Times, “There are limitations to the new drug, brexanolone, which will be marketed as Zulresso. It is delivered by infusion over 60 hours, during which a new mother must remain in a certified medical center, under supervision should she get dizzy or faint, as several patients did in clinical trials.”

Florida Republicans push fees for ex-felons to vote

Florida House Republicans approved a bill to require ex-felons to pay all outstanding court fees fees to be able to vote in elections. Voting rights advocates are saying that this bill is a violation of Florida’s recently passed Amendment Four that gave ex-felons voting rights. According to the New York Times, “Supporters of the bill, approved by the Republican-controlled House Subcommittee on Criminal Justice on Tuesday, contend that it is meant merely to resolve questions over how to put Amendment 4, which voters approved in November, into practice.

Escaped calf found on expressway

A male calf was found walking north on the Major Deegan Expressway in Bronx, NY, last Tuesday. Rescue workers predicted the calf was less than a year old. According to The New York Times, “The Police Department said the calf had wandered as far as Exit 6, about one mile, by the time officers from the Emergency Service Unit arrived. The police said they tranquilized the animal, took him into custody and transported him to an Animal Care Center facility in Harlem.
