See you at the STUEYS

The 21st annual NSU Student Life Achievement Awards (STUEYS) will take place Tuesday April 16 at the Alfred & Rose Miniaci Performing Arts Center at 6 p.m. The STUEYS co-chairs are campus life and engagement graduate assistant Tamara Lumsden  and graduate assistant for special events and projects Khiera Almanza, and the awards recognize students, faculty, corporate partners and staffs’ hard work throughout the year.

Anyone of the NSU community can get free tickets starting April 1 from Rosenthal 211  or reserve them by emailing specialprojects@nova.edu. Lumsden and Almanza also mentioned that there will be a STUEYS pre-reception and post-reception offering free food and entertainment segments during the ceremony.

To surmise the STUEYS, Lumsden said, “The STUEYS are pretty much the Oscars for NSU. It gives [everyone] the opportunity to come together and shine for a special night.”

The STUEYS are structured like a traditional award show and have 13 categories including student of the year, regional campus student of the year, co-curricular advisor of the year and corporate partner of the year, just to name a few. Nominations were originally as high as 300 students and have been narrowed to five finalists for each category except student of the year, which encompasses 16.

There are three performance segments in the STUEYS, which will include dancers, singers, dramatic performances and bands, as well as special on-stage interaction from the hosts. About these, Almanza said, “It will be very interactive as far as watching it with the new set up we have going on as well as enjoying a very chill moment with the rest of the community.” The ceremony will also include opening videos and another special videos screened by the hosts.

According to Lumsden, last years 20th annual STUEYS “amped up the aesthetics,” and this year’s will be experimenting with a few new visuals. The STUEYS is a formal event, so there will be fancy clothes combined with an eye-catching aesthetic, making the whole thing likely to be pleasing to the eyes.

To sum it all up, host Siena Barardi, a sophomore communications major, said, “We’re working really hard on it, and we hope that a lot of students come out because it’s going to be fun.”
