Following the COVID-19 outbreak in March, many movie theaters have closed and big events such as Coachella, Ultra Music Festival and Stagecoach have all been postponed or canceled. The NBA, NCAA and NFL have all called a timeout as well. So, what can we do while spending all this time at home while in quarantine? Maybe, it is time to ‘quaran-stream’ some TV shows that we were previously unable to catch up on. Here are five shows that might prove to be entertaining for binge-watching.
‘Dark’ (available on Netflix)
“Dark” is Netflix’s first original German science fiction thriller drama series, oriented around time travel and the hidden connections among four estranged families. The story begins in 2019, but spreads to include storylines in 1887, 1888, 1953, 1954 and 2053. “Dark” also introduces a parallel world whose events are intertwined with those of the first world through a wormhole in a cave beneath a local nuclear power plant. When children start vanishing from the different timelines, Jonas Kahnwald and Martha Nielson must find a way to break the repeating cycle of events and prevent the apocalypse to save their families.
‘Dead to Me’ (available on Netflix)
“Dead to Me” is an American dark comedy series that explores an important aspect of our day-to-day life: friendship. When Jen’s husband Ted dies in a hit-and-run, she desperately hunts for the killer. Jen meets Judy in her grief support group and immediately connects with her over their shared losses. With calculative steps, their friendship blooms and they eventually become best friends. The storyline keeps gripping the audience as it starts unfolding itself. Jen slowly gets to know about Ted’s dark secrets, which she confides in Judy who has dark secrets of her own — a twist in the plot. The best part of the series is the bond, chemistry and relationship Jen and Judy share. Amazing characters, brilliant acting and flawless direction make it worth watching.
‘Jane the Virgin’ (available on Netflix)
“Jane the Virgin” is an American romantic dramedy, which is an adaptation of the Venezuelan telenovela “Juana la Virgen.” The series revolves around the dramatic events that occur in the life of Jane Villanueva, a hard-working and religious Venezuelan-American woman who pledges to save her virginity until marriage. However, she is mistakenly artificially inseminated by her doctor during a regular checkup and is suddenly faced with the dilemma of choosing between the father of her baby or her detective boyfriend. This classic twist on a telenovela, starring Gina Rodriguez, will definitely keep audiences on edge throughout.
‘The Good Doctor’ (available on Hulu)
“The Good Doctor” is an American medical drama TV series. Shaun Murphy, a young autistic surgeon with Savant syndrome, is recruited to intern at the prestigious St. Bonaventure hospital, and throughout the three seasons, consistently demonstrates exceptional medical insight, helping to save numerous lives. However, Murphy struggles to connect with his patients and coworkers. Will he be able to overcome this deficiency and secure a permanent position at this prestigious hospital or will he give up on his aspirations to become a surgeon? Watch to find out.
‘The Good Place’ (available on Netflix)
“The Good Place” is an American fantasy comedy TV series, which explores the moral imperative behind placement in the ‘Good Place’ (Heaven) versus the ‘Bad Place’ (Hell). It is rare for a show to be THIS brilliant and perfect. The intricate details of the afterlife comedy, starring the beautiful and always delightful Kristen Bell and the even more delightful Ted Danson, is absolutely amazing.
