Alan B. Levan NSU Broward Center of Innovation makes its virtual debut

A new addition to NSU’s campus is the Alan B. Levan NSU Broward Center of Innovation. This public-private partnership will serve the NSU and Broward County communities in more ways than one. With its four pillars being ideate, incubate, accelerate and post-accelerate, there are plenty of programs and events that will benefit first time entrepreneurs and students with an interest in furthering their academic journey.

“We are building what I call an economic development engine for Greater Fort Lauderdale, Broward County and the South Florida region. This is perhaps the largest initiative of its kind that’s linking together the innovation ecosystem that continues to grow in the South Florida market,” said John Wensveen, Chief Innovation Officer and Executive Director for the Levan Center of Innovation.

Ahead of its summer 2021 public debut, the center decided to host a #WebinarWednesday series that will focus on topics such as technology, innovation and entrepreneurship to give the public a preview of what the center has to offer.

“Our construction project will be completed in early July of 2021. That will position us to open up the center, physically, this coming summer. In advance of that, what we wanted to do is start some basic programming in the virtual world. So that, number one, we can be flexible and accommodating with the current environment in which we live, and second, so we can start to grow our immediate network here in South Florida and beyond so that it’s not a surprise when we actually do arrive,” said Wensveen.

On Jan. 13, the center hosted its first virtual event titled “The State of the Global Startup Ecosystem.” The panel of speakers discussed topics such as challenges and strategies that impact the startup ecosystem. Among the panel guests were CEOs of startup companies.

While the #WednesdayWebinar series is just a taste of all of the possibilities this new center has to offer, come summer, the center will be working out of the fifth floor of the NSU Alvin Sherman Library. The 54,000-square-foot hub and driver of innovation is sure to impact the NSU and Broward county communities alike.
