Student government hosts their first events of the year
The Student Government Association (SGA) have kicked off the annual Weeks of Welcome at NSU with several events for new and returning students. SGA kicked off the first official week back on campus with the Shark Social on Aug. 23 outside Flight Deck to celebrate the on-campus restaurant’s new menu. The event had music, games, food and shark-themed drinks available for students to celebrate both the reopening of Flight Deck and their first week back on campus. As the first week back on campus drews to a close, SGA hosted Sharkapalooza, one of NSU’s biggest traditional events. Undergraduate student organizations gathered at the Bill Gessner Sports Complex to set up booths for students to win prizes, play games and celebrate the end of a successful first week of classes.
IOC collaborates with S.L.C.E. office on workshops throughout semester, needs ambassadors
The student government association’s Inter-Organizational Council (IOC) is collaborating with the Office of Student Leadership and Civic Engagement to bring students new workshops throughout the semester and aim to put on a total of ten workshops throughout the academic year. The student government association’s IOC is also looking to recruit student ambassadors to help make this year a success.
New positions for freshman senators will open starting this week
The SGA board announced that they would have a number of freshman senator positions open for new students to apply to, and that these positions would be opening after Sharkapalooza. The open positions will be posted on the student government association’s Instagram, @nsuundergradsga, so keep an eye out on that platform if you’re interested in working for student government.
New NSU tradition is proposed
A new NSU tradition is in the works thanks to legislation proposed by residential senator Breanna Brady. While NSU already has numerous longstanding traditions, some have become hard to plan while also keeping safety precautions for the COVID-19 pandemic in mind. This new tradition, dubbed as the NSU Games, would gather groups of students from different residential halls – commuters included, being their own hall – and compete in both team and individual challenges. While it’s still early in the works, NSU may have a new annual tradition to celebrate.
