It’s only mid-September, but many stores have already whipped out their fall and Halloween themed home décor and clothing dating all the way back to late August. I, for one, am happy to see this shift. While living in Florida has its perks, my favorite season will always be fall, so being able to peruse through the seasonal sections at stores gets me even more excited for my favorite holiday of the year.
However, not everyone is happy about this shift from summer. Some people are pointing out that it’s still around 90 degrees every day of the week. Even back in my home state of Wisconsin the leaves haven’t turned yet. This leads to a question that may be on many people’s minds: is it too early to decorate for Halloween?
The answer from me is no, and for a couple of good reasons. The first of which is just that some people just hate Halloween. Halloween often gets a bad rap because of all the spooky elements, and some people even go as far as to call it unholy. However, if we’re looking at other holidays, it’s simply unfair to complain about people already decorating for Halloween because stores put out other holiday items even further in advance. In some stores before Halloween has even rolled around there are Christmas decorations and decorations for the new year. I know some of my friends already have Christmas decorations out, and I don’t see anyone complaining about that.
Here in Florida there really isn’t a fall season, which makes it all the more appropriate for you to decorate for Halloween whenever you want. It’s just 90 degrees and rainy every day, and that’s it. If you’re like me and really enjoy fall and Halloween and all the cozy, spooky and neutral color themes that come along with them, I think it’s fine to surround yourself with an environment and a theme that make you happy because the outdoors probably won’t reflect that.
In the end, it’s never wrong to decorate your space in a way that makes you happy, even if it seems tacky or inappropriate for the season to others. Take a trip to Spirit Halloween, enjoy a pumpkin spice flavored drink and read some ghost stories. While you may want to wait to buy a pumpkin to carve, go ahead and enjoy all the other early perks of fall. It’s all about what makes you feel good.
