“My advice to first year students is to not get discouraged when things get challenging. You are going through a huge transition and there are guaranteed to be some bumps in the road. There are resources everywhere that you can utilize when you feel like you need them. Find the things that make you happy and this will help you succeed during your first semester as well as the rest of your time here at NSU. Everyone is rooting for you,” said Erin Goonan, junior behavioral neuroscience and psychology major.
“I would encourage any freshmen to take time out of their schedule and organize a time where they can do something they enjoy. Whether that is relaxing, watching Netflix or working out, whatever it is that makes you feel happy. In order to stay strong during your first semester you want to take some time and prioritize your own well-being,” said Molly McDonell, junior psychology major.
“To stay strong during the first semester of college, I would highly recommend that freshmen surround themselves with a solid support system. Whether it is an acquaintance in a mutual class, a family member or even a UNIV Peer Leader it is really important for freshmen to surround themselves with people they can rely on and talk to in order to take their mind off of school and the things that can be incredibly overwhelming during the first semester of college,” said Caryna Santos, senior elementary education major.
“Throughout the semester make sure to take breaks while doing schoolwork. Try not to become too overwhelmed by the amount of assignments and if you notice that you are, take time to do an activity that is completely different from what you were working on,” said Katherine Napolitano, junior speech-language and communication disorders major.
