DCCC starts hub to fight against disinformation in the Latino Community 

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee started a new online information hub classed “Juntos Together” to aid in the removal of disinformation in the Hispanic community. The hub can be downloaded and features infographics and Gifs in both English and Spanish to be used to repost and share on social media platforms. The content has information about vaccinations including places to get vaccinated for COVID-19. According to NBC news, the hub is designed to be a rapid response to the disinformation being spread. 

Alex Murdaugh Turns himself in for arranging his own death 

Alex Murdaugh, a well-known South Carolina attorney, found the bodies of his wife and child a few months ago and has turned himself into the police after attempting to arrange his own his own death so that his surviving son would get a $10 million life insurance benefit, according to USA Today. He was charged with insurance fraud and filing a false police report and had his bail set at $20,000. South Carolina law enforcement also announced they opened an investigation on the death of his former housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield. Both the case of Murdaugh’s family and former housekeeper are unsolved, however authorities hope to get answers soon. 

 

QuickBooks partners with Gaby Natale to support Latino entrepreneurs  

QuickBooks partnered with Gaby Natale, Latina Emmy winner and motivational speaker, to raise awareness about the challenges Latino owned small businesses face. According to Newswire, their partnership will include a commitment to educating Latino entrepreneurs through financial management tools. They will also include this collaboration in their marketing efforts and hope to be able to empower small businesses  

Google Announces new feature celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month 

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Google launched a new feature for the Google Assistant. Users are able to learn something about Latino history by asking the AI “hey google, what happened today in Latino history?”  They will get a range of information including significant events and people. According to CNET, this feature was announced on Sept. 15 and will continuously be available. For example, Google Assistant provided this fact on Sept. 16, “Today in Latino History: September 16 marks the anniversary of Mexico’s Independence. On this day in 1810, a small group of people led by the priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla congregated in the parish church in the town of Dolores to fight for freedom from the Spanish Empire. This event is known as El Grito de Dolores, and every year the Mexican president replicates Hidalgo’s words of the Grito in front of thousands of people who come together in Mexico City’s main square to celebrate the country’s independence.
