This month, famous makeup brand ColourPop released their collaboration with the NBA. The collaboration is the first of its kind, the NBA has only teamed up with designer clothes brands.
There has been a lot of buzz about this collection, so I decided to check it out myself and see if it’s worth the money and the press.
There are a total of six teams represented in the collection: The Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Chicago Bulls, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat.
Each team has a face sticker sheet, an eye shadow palette and a makeup bag with a few accessories.
For $63 dollars you can get the whole pack for a single team, with the palette itself selling for about $16 and the stickers for $7.
Unless you’re actually going to wear these colors to a game, they don’t have a lot of use. With that said, the Warriors, Mavericks and Heat and Bulls colors seem like flattering universal colors and could be used for many different occasions.
The Lakers’ colors seem like they can go with a couple of niche outfits and for very specific occasions. The purple and gold are nice but unless you’re trying to go for a specific vibe, there’s not a lot of flexibility with the usage of the palette. There’s only so much you can pair with deep purple. The Warriors provides a good combination of multiple shades of gold and blue, balancing itself out with white. The Heat and Bulls have various shades of red and and black with the Heat having some orange. The Mavericks offers interesting shades of light blue and silver.
The Celtics colors just seem like they can’t be used for much unless you want to actually go to a Celtics game, but maybe that was the point for a lot of these palettes. That would make sense seeing as how they have face stickers of the teams as well. Unless you have season passes or frequent NBA games it just seems like it’s not worth it.
The Heat and Warriors palettes are my favorites of the collection. They offer a range of colors that can be mixed and offer a lot of flexibility. I can see myself wearing these shades at least once a week and not just for Friday and Saturday night. Although they would look great for those days too.
The collection is beautiful and filled with many diverse and amazing shades for all skin tones, but a lot of it seems impractical for weekly use. Maybe that was the point though, wearing these to an NBA game would make you feel prettier than a cheerleader. Someone call the Basketball Wives.
