This summer’s blockbuster releases each have a unique quality to them. There are big blockbuster films, but also self-contained original stories. There are action and adventure films, but also dramas and comedies. No matter what genre or type of film people enjoy the most, the summer of 2022 will deliver a film for them.
“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”
The next movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” In the film, Doctor Strange seeks help from Scarlet Witch to repair the multiverse after the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “WandaVision.” The multiverse aspect will allow new and existing Marvel characters to make cameo appearances, and fans are excited to see who might show up. The film released on May 6.
“Top Gun: Maverick”
The long-awaited sequel to “Top Gun” releases in theaters on May 27. In “Top Gun: Maverick,” Maverick trains a new generation of pilots. The movie excited fans with the announcement of the return of Tom Cruise as Maverick and Val Kilmer as Iceman. As he meets both new and old faces, Maverick’s determination and love for flying are put to the test.
“The Bob’s Burgers Movie”
Based on the popular FX series, “The Bob’s Burgers Movie” follows the Belchers as they try to save the family restaurant. Fans of the series can look forward to seeing everything they love on the big screen, including the charming characters and whimsical songs. “The Bob’s Burgers Movie” opens in theaters on May 27.
“Jurassic World Dominion”
“Jurassic World Dominion” is the culmination of all the films in the “Jurassic Park” series. After all the dinosaurs were released into the world in “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” Owen and Claire navigate through their new society, determining if dinosaurs and humans can truly coexist. Along the way, they’re joined by “Jurassic Park” veterans Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie Satler (Laura Dern) and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum, played by their respective actors from the original films. “Jurassic World Dominion” releases on June 10.
“Lightyear”
“Lightyear” is another entry in the “Toy Story” series, but it’s separate from the main films. It tells the story of the original Buzz Lightyear astronaut that the action figure is based on. Fans are interested in seeing Pixar’s first full-length science-fiction film since “WALL-E.” The film is expected to release in theaters on June 24.
“Thor: Love and Thunder”
“Thor: Love and Thunder” sees the return of Thor and Valkyrie following the events of “Avengers: Endgame.” Not much is known about the film, except that Jane Foster will also return, this time becoming The Mighty Thor from the comics. The film releases on July 8.
“Nope”
Jordan Peele’s third film after “Get Out” and “Us” is “Nope,” set to premiers on July 22. Although it’s unrelated to Peele’s previous films, it will undoubtedly share the same mysterious horror elements as them. The film stars Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer and Steven Yeun.
Watching movies is a great way to decompress, especially now that the semester has come to an end. The semester was challenging for many, but students’ hard work and commitment have paid off. These movies and more give them the chance to celebrate completing another year at NSU.
