NSU to host two new spooktastic events

For the first time, NSU organizations will host two new Halloween events: A Night of Terror Haunted House and Glow in the Shark Halloween Party.

The resident assistants and the Residential Student Association will host A Night of Terror Haunted House in Room 123 of The Commons Residence Hall on Oct. 29 from 9 to 11 p.m. The Student Events and Activities Board will host the Glow in the Shark Party on Oct. 30 from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in Room 309 of the Mailman-Hollywood Building.

This is the first year the RAs and the members of RSA will host an event like A Night of Terror. RA Jana Mrkaja, junior psychology major, said a lot of effort has been put into planning the event.

“Our staff has been working on this program since the beginning of September and we are really excited to have residents and students experience the haunted house,” she said.

RA Candace Sowle, sophomore speech-language pathology major, said she hopes all the effort put into the haunted house pays off.

“We’ve all been striving to make the haunted house a successful event, so it can ultimately become a tradition,” Sowle said. “We also want to see our hard work and visions for the haunted house come to life.”

Within the haunted house, there will be various themed sections where students can walk through. Mrkaja said information regarding the themes of the different sections of the haunted house is top secret.

“I don’t want to give out too much information, as the element of surprise for a haunted house is key,” Mrkaja said.

Sowle said residents should take a walk through the haunted house because they’ll experience a laugh and a possible scare.

“Residents can expect to see their RAs and friends dressed in frightening costumes and makeup trying to scare them around each corner they take,” Sowle said.

A Night of Terror is free and open to all NSU students with a SharkCard. Candy will also be given out at the event.

“Although A Night of Terror is a first-time event, it’ll definitely be a memorable one,” Sowle said.

Though this is the first year S.E.A. Board is hosting the Glow in the Shark Party, S.E.A. Board Vice President of Membership and Development Dani McCalla said that the board hopes that the room will be filled with people.

“It’s going to be live and we are going to turn up. Mailman-Hollywood Room 309 is going to be just like a club,” McCalla said. “S.E.A. Board and you are going to have to come catch that wave.”

McCalla, senior communication studies major, said students are encouraged to come in costume, but it is not required. Students should dress appropriately.

Those who choose to dress up may participate in a costume contest. One male and one female will be selected to win a 32-inch Sony flat-screen TV.

Everlast Productions, which has designed for MTV’s Video Music Awards and artists such as Pitbull and DJ Khaled, will provide lighting for the event. A South Florida disc jockey will play different music genres throughout the night, and light refreshments will be served. The event will also feature activities throughout the night.
