Business School to host MBA panel discussion

The H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship will host a panel discussion on the value of an MBA on Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. in the Sales Institute Room 3000 of the Carl DeSantis Building.

The five panelists will consist of corporate executives, NSU faculty, alumni and current students who will voice their opinions and insights on the various discussion topics. Some of the topics will include: the right time to pursue an MBA, the value of an MBA in economic down times, choosing the right school for an MBA and the value of earning a specialized MBA degree.

Dennis Dannacher, assistant dean of enrollment services at the Huizenga School, said their office frequently receives questions from perspective students regarding MBAs.

“Since we always hear the same concerns, we decided to put together a group of knowledgeable and successful people, from all different walks of life, to answer their questions and address their concerns,” he said.

Gary Press, chairman of Lifestyle Media Group of South Florida and editor of Business Wealth Magazine, will be the special guest at the event and moderator of the panel.

Dannacher said, “Press is very well connected to corporate Americans in the Florida community. He will tell attendees what skills business leaders look for when hiring, as well as share some of his personal experiences.”

The discussion will be streamed online to all NSU’s regional campuses in Florida for students to listen, watch and ask questions.

“Incorporating the video conference to the event will allow students the opportunity to get the questions they wouldn’t have been able to ask answered,” Dannacher said.

The event is open to the public and around 100 people are expected to attend the main campus discussion and 20 at each of the other campuses.

“The discussion will be well worth an attendee’s time and I especially encourage all undergraduates to attend, even those who aren’t pursuing a degree in business,” Dannacher said

Dannacher said the event is not for recruitment purposes but to benefit students.

“We will receive some exposure toward our MBA program through this event. However, that’s not the goal. We want to tackle the whole concept of what an MBA will do for someone once they earn it; that is the objective,” he said.

The panelists will include Area Manager at AT&T Rob Arce, Associate Professor of marketing  Bay O’Leary, MBA student and Industrial Engineer at American Express Christopher Cabezas, and Assistant Professor of marketing  John Riggs.
