Why is it important for college students to be informed about politics?
“It’s important to know what’s going on in your country because college ends sooner than you think, and, before you know it, you’ll be in the real world. Whether we realize it or not, while I’m in college, what’s going on in the government will affect you now more than ever.”
Marrissa Dybas, senior biology major
“Whatever happens in politics affects you and it effects everybody. You have to be aware of what’s going on in your country, or else you’ll be lost. Not completely understanding the way the government works around you can cause you to be taken advantage of, and you might follow and support the wrong things because you don’t completely understand what they mean.”
Rahul Sinha, freshman biology major
“I think it’s important for college students to be informed because our government officials are the people who will create the laws that we must follow in our everyday lives. If you don’t care about the way in which our government handles law making and chooses to run the country, then you don’t care about how yourself.”
Stephanie Merchant, law student
“College students need to make an effort to be informed because our generation is the future. If we choose not to be educated, then we make the conscious choice to make unintelligent and uninformed decisions that will not only affect us, but the lives of future generations.”
Anais Mirabile, law student
“I believe that it is important for college students to be informed about politics because picking who will run the country is a big decision, a decision that affects us both financially and personally.”
Laura Llanos, senior biology major
“College students need to know about politics because we can now influence the vote. We’re over 18 now, and it’s our civic duty to an informed decision.”
Emily Mehlhop, freshman environmental science major
