NSU students are opinionated about all kinds of things, from universal social issues to NSU-specific concerns. Sometimes, however, we Sharks just need to rant about the smaller things in life to let off some steam. In this column, The Current asks: water your thoughts?
When I was in high school, I had to be up and out of the door by 6:50 a.m. every morning. It wasn’t necessarily easy to do, but I also didn’t feel like a complete zombie trying to get myself ready for the day.
However, now that I am in college, the greatest struggle of my day is getting out of bed in the morning. Now, I usually don’t even have to wake up before 7:30 a.m. — which is almost a whole hour of extra sleep compared to my high school days — in order to make it to my classes on time. But somehow, I can still barely muster the strength to drag myself out of bed, brew a cup of much-needed coffee, grab a granola bar and get out of the door. Usually, I’m not even concerned about getting to class on time; it’s the urge to pee that forces me out of bed.
The fact that I can’t wake up early anymore annoys me to no end. Why can’t I just go to bed at a normal hour and wake up feeling refreshed? Maybe it’s the thought of walking 10 minutes to sit through hours of lecturing, or the daunting trip down from my top bunk. Or maybe it’s even just the general need to sleep more. Whatever the case, the daily struggle of getting out of bed in the morning haunts my dreams until the alarm sounds off.
