NSU Using Mako Sharks to Predict Florida Election Winners
Nova Southeastern’s Guy Harvey Institute has tagged four sharks to predict winners in Florida’s 2018 midterm elections. The sharks representing the race to the Governor’s mansion are the DeSantis Shark (for congressman Ron DeSantis) against the Gillum shark (for Mayor Andrew Gillum). In the shark race for U.S. Senate, we have the Nelson Shark (for Senator Bill Nelson) and the Scott Shark (for Governor Rick Scott). NSU Serves as an Early Voting Site for the 2018 Election
Registered voters have the chance to vote early in the Carl DeSantis building in Rooms 1048 and 1049 on NSU’s Fort Lauderdale/Davie campus. Each polling location is open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. during the early voting period starting from Oct. 22 and ending on Nov. 4. “NSU looks forward to hosting an early voting location for the Broward County community,” said Dr. George Hanbury, NSU’s president and CEO, according to NSU News. “Our central location in the county allows for ease of voting for our students, faculty, staff and neighbors to engage in a time-honored civic duty.” Before, early voting was not available on college campus.
JDRF One Walk to kick off at the arena
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) will host a special kickoff event in the Rick Case Arena on Nov. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. JDRF is the leading global organization funding Type 1 diabetes research and is committed to making life healthier for people with Type 1 diabetes. Dr. Lisa Kenigsberg, a Pediatric Endocrinologist and Medical Director with Broward Health will be speaking at the event. Those who wish to attend must RSVP to arousseaau@jdrf.com by Nov. 1. Career Development to host Speed Networking
The NSU Alumni Association has teamed up with Career Development to host Student-Alumni Speed Networking in the Carl Desantis Building Atrium on Nov. 5 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.. Students will be able to gain networking skills and make connections with the alumni. Alumni in many different careers will be present.
