NSU’s annual Community Fest is returning on Saturday, Feb. 9 from noon to four. This event will be taking place around Gold Circle Lake and will feature booths from numerous clubs and organizations on campus.
This year’s Community Fest will feature slides, petting zoos, music, food and snacks, sports games, obstacle courses, bounce houses, face painting and free giveaways and drawings. The main goal of Community Fest is to raise school spirit as well as community awareness for NSU as a whole by celebrating students, employees and their families, along with local businesses and organizations.
Students can expect from this event a multitude of different clubs and organizations such as Greek life and student government, plus academic clubs like pre-med and pre-dental clubs. Most of the clubs and organizations represented will have games or fun activities for anyone to participate in, as well as some basic knowledge about the organization. Along with student-run organizations, many departments or colleges will also have booths so that students or family members can fully explore all that NSU has to offer.
Not only does Community Fest showcase student, staff and faculty events and organizations, it also has a number of business and organizations that are sponsoring this event from the surrounding area. Some of last year’s sponsors included: Blaze Pizza, iFly, Bento Asian Kitchen & Sushi, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Menchies, Burger 21 and many others.
According to the graduate assistant for special events and projects, Elyse Rosen, getting involved with this event is easy. Students can volunteer by filling out the Community Fest Volunteer form on Shark Hub. Even if a student is not volunteering through a specific organization, SERV hours can still be recorded for the organization that student is a part of as long as at least two people from that specific organization are attending. These volunteer opportunities are still open up until January 21 at 5 p.m. Contact communityfest@nova.edu or call 954-262-7274 if you have any questions about being a volunteer.
This event is a great way for students to be more acquainted to the different organizations on campus as well as in the nearby area. Join your fellow classmates and community members and come on out to the Community Fest on Saturday, Feb. 9 from noon to four at Gold Circle Lake.
