Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek diagnosed with pancreatic cancer
Alex Trebek announced on YouTube that he was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. According to CNN, the game show host is hoping to defeat the odds and survive. In Trebek’s video posted to the Jeopardy YouTube account, he keeps his sense of humor stating that he has to survive since his contract states he has to host the popular game show for three more years. It is unknown when he will be starting treatment.
Paul Manafort sentenced to 47 months in jail
Former chairman of President Trump’s campaign was sentenced to 47 months in prison for bank fraud and cheating on his taxes. According to the Washington Post, Manafort’s four year sentencing was very lenient and far below the recommended time. Federal judges are not required to adhere to sentencing guidelines and are free to come up with any number that they feel is appropriate. Manafort faced up to 24 years in prison.
White House communications director resigns
Bill Shine has announced his resignation as White House communications director. Shine was the fifth communications director for the Trump Administration and resigned less than one year into working, according to USA Today. Serving for about nine months, Shine is the longest-serving communications director for the administration. President Trump has announced that Shine would still be involved in his 2020 Presidential campaign.
House passs broad resolution calling out racism, anti-Semitic comments
The House of Representatives has passed a bipartisan resolution condemning anti-Semitic comments. The final vote was 407 to 23 with 23 Republicans voting no, according to Fox News. The resolution follows repeated anti-Semitic comments made by Rep. Ilhan Omar via Twitter. The resolution condemns all forms of bigotry, such as white supremacy and harmful LGBT comments.
