Every year, returning students to NSU’s campus get excited to make new friends, excel in their classes and make some memories. One of the most important parts of a college student’s social life is the events and social gatherings they participate in, and luckily, NSU has a full roster of events to check out throughout the year.
In the Fall…
Weeks of Welcome (WOW): As the name suggests, these events take place during the first few weeks of the school year to acclimate new students and returning students to the hustle and bustle of NSU. These events change every year with some annual traditions, such as the annual closing event: Sharkapalooza.
Sharkapalooza: This event can be best described as the best event NSU has to offer. This event gives students and the local community an opportunity to check out clubs and organizations, win prizes, see performances, participate in fun activities and enjoy free food.
Homecoming Week: Homecoming is arguably one of the biggest event weeks at NSU with a lot of focus on our Homecoming basketball game and Homecoming Bash. For students, this has become a staple of our community on campus and some of the annual activities, like the “Anything that Floats” Raft Races, Homecoming Court and Homecoming Kick-Off, are great ways to socialize and make new friends.
In the Winter…
CommunityFest: Created by a former student, CommunityFest is a way for NSU clubs, organizations and departments to celebrate and connect with the local community in a fun, carnival or fair-like atmosphere around Gold Circle Lake. Students and local community members in attendance have the opportunity to win prizes, explore NSU, enjoy free food and have fun while doing so.
Laugh Your Fins Off: This event is a comedy show in which NSU invites a popular comedian to perform and entertain the NSU community. Previous Comedians include Tiffany Haddish and Trevor Noah.
