South Florida may not be the first place that comes to mind when considering secondhand shops but that does not mean that it does not have its own treasure troves. From thrift shops to antique stores, South Florida is home to many items and articles of clothing that people just don’t want anymore. Luckily for thrifters, and other secondhand shoppers, there are a few located right in the general area.
Out Of The Closet
There are many Out Of The Closet thrift stores all around the U.S. The ones located in South Florida are in Wilton Manors, Downtown Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.
Out Of The Closet is well-known for providing free HIV testing to anyone that enters but is also known for their wide selection of thrifted clothes. Everything is very well organized at their locations; I always know exactly where to go to find something based on the article of clothing I’m looking for and the size that it’s in. Out Of The Closet is also extra convenient due to its status as a chain. If you don’t find something nice in one store, the next one is usually within reach for you to check out.
Their inventories are always changing, allowing for a new experience every time you walk in. Out Of The Closet has an open and friendly environment for anyone who wants to find secondhand items for cheap. A word of warning: due to the nature of the clothing, some items might be too worn out to actually see any more use, some should be avoided regardless of cleaning protocol such as underwear.
Antique Mall
Off of Davie Road in Cooper City sits Antique Mall, a long storefront in a little strip mall. The inside seems much bigger than an Antique store should. There are isles on top of isles of every form of antique you could imagine and from almost every decade. The store is split into various sections with each vendor ready and attentive at theirs to assist you in any way you might need. The shop is filled with records, old (sometimes tacky) jewelry, action figures from the ‘80s and glass bottles from the ‘20s. There really is something for everyone in there. The selection also tends to be reasonable and affordably priced as compared to other Antique shops.
The Fine Lion
In the same strip as Antique Mall is The Fine Lion. Tucked away in an unsuspecting location is the little shop that seems to have one of the best Antique selections in all of South Florida. The Fine Lion is small, smaller than Antique Mall, but that does not mean that its stock is weak. It is the complete opposite. Fine Lion always has a varied and fascinating assortment of books, hats, home décor and jewelry.
While other spots may come to mind when looking to secondhand shop, South Florida has its own unique slice of the pie. It’s just a matter of finding them.
