It is routine. Every year, an actor who has been hired to host a big Hollywood award show walks on stage to a roaring audience of their show-business comrades, and delivers an opening monologue, complete with zingers pointed at controversial actors, jokes about movie titles and self-deprecating humor.

New album features industrial noise for the masses
A compilation album is always a good thing, especially when it comprises two of the most well-known names of Malignant Record’s industrial roster. Nyodene D and Sektor 304 collaborate here in split — each drawing on source material of the other. Sektor 304 draws from Nyodene D’s excellent “Edenfall” album, while Nyodene D draws on Sektor 304’s “Radio Sonores” project.
Book review: “Turtle Feet”
The widely popular 2006 memoir “Eat, Love, Pray” by Elizabeth Gilbert is a charming story of a woman hungry for truth, satiating her appetite on the other side of the world. “Turtle Feet” follows that same soul-searching template, but with twice the attitude, and no fluffy, hippy crap and inevitable happy endings.

Movie review: “Life of Pi”
“Life of Pi”, based on the book of the same name by Yann Martel, tells the story of Piscine “Pi” Patel and his arduous adventure as he survives a disaster at sea and is hurtled into an epic journey of discovery.
“Planetside 2” offers a unique world
“Planetside 2” fluidly combines the realms of the FPS shooter with the massively multiplayer. The battles in “Planetside 2” are truly massive, with at least 100 active players present in the largest engagements. These huge fights usually last hours on end, with players moving back and forth along strategic points of capture, defense, and assault in one of three server-wide theaters of war spanning vast continents.

Skyfall: Not really the end
Everyone knows the man: James Bond, 007 — skilled agent, loyal Brit, dangerous flirt, and refined alcoholic. It’s his character, rather than his exact story, that is legend. Each new Bond movie waves away a little more of the smoke that clouds his past, slowly revealing to us a little more of his emotional, flawed side.
Restaurant Review: Fogo de Chao
Fogo de Chao is a “churrascaria” — Brazilian steakhouse — that brings the gaucho spirit to South Florida. The restaurant offers an international flavor in an international city. Inside, I was greeted warmly and led into a restaurant with tall ceilings, modern furnishings and plenty of open space.
