NSU to open the largest coral reef research center

On Sept. 27 NSU will open the doors to the Center of Excellence for Coral Reef Ecosystems Research. This facility which cost 50 million dollars to construct is located at NSU’s Oceanographic Center at John U. Lloyd Beach State Park. By opening this research center NSU will take the lead in conducting research in marine science related to the vital coral reefs that surround Florida and contribute to its economy. The grand opening ceremony begins at 3:30 p.m.

 

NBC-6 to Broadcast at Shark Circle 

As part of their feature on local colleges, NBC-6 will report live from NSU on Sept. 12. NSU students, staff, and faculty interested in participating are encouraged to wear their most spirited gear and join Razor and the NSU cheerleaders at the Shark Fountain outside of the Don Taft University Center at 4:30p.m. NBC- 6 will also feature UM, FIU, FAU, and Broward College. The broadcast will air live periodically on the NBC- 6 newscast between 5:30 to 7p.m.

 

Faculty to Preform Musical Recital on Sept. 12

The faculty in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences will perform a recital on Sept. 12, at 7 p.m, at the Performing and Visual Arts Wing, Room 309 of the Don Taft University Center. This event is part of the college’s faculty series, and it is free and open to the public. For information, call: (954) 262-8179.

 

Take the LSAT at NSU

NSU students can now register to take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) on campus. Testing will be held on Oct.6, 2012 and Feb. 9, 2013. Seating will be on a first come first serve basis. There will be no priority registration for NSU students. For more information please visit, www.lsac.org.

 

Argentino Film Festival Opens Hispanic Heritage Month

The 10th annual Cine Argentino festival opened on Sept. 9. There are festival dates throughout the month of September with each date catering to a specific aspect of Hispanic culture. In addition to films, guest speakers will discuss their works. The festival runs until Sept. 30.

 

Davie Residents Likely to Pay a Tax Increase 

Davie gave the initial “ok” on a new tax rate and budget. The town council gave an approval for a $4 increase on last year’s tax rate of $560 per $100,000 in assed value for homeowners. The town’s next budget hearing is set to be held on Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. in the town hall.
