Have a frightful dinner with Shark Dining
Shark Dining will host a Fright Fest in the Don Taft University Center Food Court on Oct. 27 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Surprise Halloween-themed dishes will be served, and there will be a cupcake decorating competition. The winner of the competition will receive Shark Dining vouchers.

Walk to fight suicide
To raise awareness about suicide, the Gamma Delta chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will co-host the annual Out of the Darkness Walk on Nov. 15 on the Ft. Lauderdale/Davie campus. Registration will start at 8 a.m., and the 5K will follow at 9 a.m., beginning at Fellows Way. Registration is free, and upon checking in at the event, participants can select colored beads that correspond to how suicide affected their lives to wear during the event. NSU launches Title IX webpage
NSU has launched a webpage about Title IX, the sexual misconduct policy, to offer more information about the terms and definitions, rights, reporting, education and resources associated with sexual misconduct. Sexual misconduct includes dating violence, sex-based discrimination, domestic violence, intimidation, retaliation, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, sex-based stalking and sexual harassment. NSU alumni receives Book of the Year award
NSU alumni Jacqueline Font-Guzman was awarded the Puerto Rico Bar Association 2015 Juridical Book of the Year Award for her book “Experiencing Puerto Rican Citizenship and Cultural Nationalism.” The book is based on research completed for her dissertation and revolves around the construction of Puerto Ricans’ citizenships and the maintenance of their national identities while living close to the U.S. Font-Guzman graduated from the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences with a doctorate in conflict analysis and resolution.

Kick off homecoming with a Race for Champions
Sallarulo’s Race for Champions 5K will kick off Homecoming Week on Nov. 7 at 6 a.m. on the Ft. Lauderdale/Davie campus. Proceeds from the race to go Special Olympics Florida–Broward County to provide sports training and athletic competitions to children and adults who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. Registration and packet pick-up will be from 6 a.m. to 7:25 a.m., and the race will begin at 7:30 a.m. After the race, participants can attend the Carnival of Champions, a carnival with free food, fun and entertainment. Take a paintballing trip with S.O.S.
Special Events and Projects will host a paintballing trip for NSU students on Oct. 31 as part of Sharks on the Scene events. A shuttle will pick students up at 9 a.m. to take them to Extreme Rage Paintball Park in Hollywood, Florida. Tickets are $20 and include the entry fee, paintball equipment and lunch. Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis in the Office of Student Activities. Students must present their Shark Card to purchase. Sing the national anthem for Team 2020

Auditions for the chance to sing the national anthem at the Team 2020 Celebration will be held on Nov. 23 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Don Taft university Center Room 309. The Team 2020 Celebration will be held on Jan. 23 in the Arena of the UC to celebrate another year with breakfast, giveaways and performances.
