On the Scene: Who would you want as the commencement speaker at your graduation and why?

President Barack Obama will be the keynote speaker at Miami Dade College’s commencement ceremony on April 29.  The 2011 undergraduate commencement speaker for NSU has not yet been announced. Who would you want as the commencement speaker at your graduation and why?

“Trey Parkery or Matt Stone [South Park Creators], because they have a more realistic view on society than most people in office now.” James Cordiano, junior psychology major

“Spike Lee because he has been through a lot and has an interesting story. He came from nothing. We’re a young crowd. I’m sure we’d be more interested in Spike Lee than Obama. [Spike Lee] has a very inspiring story.” Steve Geffrard, freshman business administration major

“Joe Mauer [Minnesota Twins player]. I believe he’s an inspirational figure as well as a persuasive speaker.” Arlene Campos, freshman legal studies major

“Jim Carrey. A very funny person. He’s an epic comedian. Who doesn’t know Jim Carrey?” Marco Baez, freshman criminal justice major

“Shakira because she is a singer. She works with UNICEF and is also a minority. She is a good speaker who has good communicational skills.” Claudia Santamaria, second-year nursing student

“I’m not sure. I think everyone is an idiot right now.” Irina Cossio, senior psychology major
