Rod Woodson criticizes new Raiders’ coach $100 million contract

Former Oakland Raiders assistant and Hall of Fame defensive back Rod Woodson questioned the Raiders decision to give new coach Jon Gruden a $100 million contract on March 21. According to USA Today Sports, Woodson didn’t want to sound like a “scorned lover,” since he was fired from the Raiders, but he didn’t understand how Gruden could be offered the contract having won only 53 percent of his games. Woodson also criticized the team’s decision to let Michael Crabtree go in for free agency and sign former Green Bay Packer Jordy Nelson.

Tony Romo struggles in his first PGA Tour round

Former Dallas Cowboy Tony Romo had his PGA Tour debut on March 22, faltering toward the end of the first round. Romo shot even-par 36 in his first nine holes, but went 5-over-par 77 after three bogeys and a double, according to USA Today Sports. Romo said of his performance, “That’s just nerves. Hopefully you can get that out of the way.”

Former Colts running back Frank Gore signs with Dolphins

Frank Gore, 34-year-old former South Florida resident and Miami Hurricane, has signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins, according to ESPN. Gore ranks fifth in NFL history with 14,026 rushing yards, and needs only 76 more to surpass Hall of Famer Curtis Martin for fourth place, according to USA Today Sports. This season will be Gore’s 14th, following three with the Indianapolis Colts.

Danny Green refutes report of players-only meeting with Kawhi Leonard

Spurs shooting guard and small forward Danny Green issued a tweet March 22 refuting an ESPN report that Spurs’ players held a players-only meeting with Kawhi Leonard pleading with Leonard to return for the playoffs. Leonard, who has only played nine games in the season due to his right quadriceps tendinopathy, maintains that his goal is to return to the team but has not given a definite timeline for his return. According to USA Today Sports, Green said ESPN’s report, which claimed the meeting was emotional and took Leonard by surprise, “couldn’t be anymore incorrect.” According to the San Antonio Express-News, a meeting, led by Spurs’ Tony Parker, did take place but that it wasn’t tense. Leonard said his teammates encouraged him not to return until he felt healthy enough to do so.
