On Jan. 8, 22-year-old Jared Loughner opened fire in a rally held at a supermarket in Tucson, Ariz. He killed six people, including a federal judge and a 9-year-old girl. Among the 12 injured was U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who remains in critical condition. Giffords was the intended target.
