Renee Glick is a third-year doctoral student at the Center for Psychological Studies. She enjoys reading, spending time with friends and learning about nature and animals. Her interests include pain advocacy, research, health psychology and suicide prevention. Her favorite quote is “I think therefore I am,” by Rene Descartes, and her philosophy on life stems from a quote by the Dalai Lama: “Happiness is not something readymade — it comes from our own actions.”

My illness does not define me. I can do most activities like other people. I may have trouble walking or climbing a staircase but I am just as good as another peer. I had exceeded some expectations of cystic fibrosis. I made it to college. I live on my own. I am not in the hospital 24/7. I’d say I’m doing pretty darn good.

She is a single mother of two boys and says she is incredibly blessed. Murphy hopes to adopt a third child in the next four years from Ethiopia.

Victor Wong is a junior business administration major with a minor in sports management. He is from Guatemala and enjoys playing soccer, reading, going to the gym, listening to music and playing video games. He dislikes waking up very early and being stressed, angry or bored. His philosophy in life is a Catholic philosophy which summarizes what Jesus said, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Jim Wood is a graduate of the Huizenga Business School in Business Administration, holds a Master of Science in College Student Affairs from the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences and is a member of Enrollment Services in the Huizenga Business School. He and his fellow participants lost a total of 337 pounds during the 2011 Biggest Loser program at NSU.
