Senior Sarah Patterson, a business administration major, has only been rowing since her freshman year of high school. She took up the sport when a friend told her to try it during a school orientation, and she has been hooked ever since.

Athlete of the week: Abbey Gittings
This Tamworth, England native has been playing since her grandfather bought her a set of clubs when she was 5 years old. She has been hooked ever since and hopes to make it her career.
Atheletes of the week: Erin Black & Oskar Nordstrand
NSU swimmers Erin Black and Oskar Nordstrand, both seniors, had never met until they transferred to NSU in the fall of 2011. Since then, the brother-sister-like duo has found their groove. The two not only train and go to school together, but they also share an apartment and almost identical schedules.
Athelete of the week: Derrick Wood
Junior exercise and sport science major, Derrick Wood has been on track and field teams since sixth grade. He initially took to the track as something to do after basketball season, but it eventually turned into Wood’s ticket to a NCAA scholarship with NSU. He started by running the 110-meter hurdles, but transitioned into the high jump, long jump and triple jump.
Athelete of the week: Shane Hill
Shane Hill, senior exercise science major, has played baseball ever since he was a little kid. He first began to play baseball when he was 4 years old, after his dad bought him a plastic bat and plastic ball from the local pharmacy. He said that he has been hooked ever since.

Junior marketing major and graphic design minor Samantha High has been playing volleyball since she was in sixth grade. She grew up watching her older cousin play the sport. Then, after she attended a volleyball clinic tryout, High was hooked. Whether on the court or on the sideline, she is always cheering on her team.

Saladrigas is a Florida native who was born in Hollywood and raised in Cooper City. The 21-year-old biology major was introduced to the sport at the age of 6, when she was on the local children’s tee ball team.

Athlete of the week: Sean Mullan
Sean Mullan, senior management major, is in his last season of playing forward and guard for the Sharks basketball team. He began playing when he was 11 years old, after his parents encouraged him to always try something new. Since he was already playing other sports, basketball seemed like the way to go.
Athlete of the Week: Eric Acevedo
For senior Eric Acevedo, baseball season will be a special one. The infielder for the NSU Men’s Baseball team is one of 11 seniors on the 2013 roster. The team is predicted to finish second in the preseason Sunshine State Conference coaches’ poll.
