Community service group to host a night of fun and games

Get to know fellow students at CAUSEfest — a night of games and giveaways.

The event is sponsored by CAUSE (Community Action Using Student Empowerment) and will take place on Sept. 28 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. in the RecPlex.

Vanissa Benjamin, junior communication studies major and the President of CAUSE, said, “CAUSEfest is a huge field–day for different organizations and students who want to come out and have some fun and get to know each other. There will be a lot of old-school fun games.”

All students can participate in the activities, including: tug–of–war, a food–eating contest, dodge ball, rock–paper–scissors, a human pyramid and a sack race to earn points, which count towards prizes including free Rapids Water Park tickets.

Students will be divided into teams of six. Benjamin recommends that students sign their team up in advance to earn extra points. Students without a team will be grouped together.

“Last year was our first CAUSEfest and it was very successful,” said Benjamin. “We had many organizations show up and had lots of giveaways.”

The winning team will be the group with the most points at the end of the night.

Aaron Hackman, assistant director of Student Leadership and Civic Engagement, said, “It will be a great opportunity for students to get to know the members of CAUSE and learn more about the organization.” Hackman said students will also receive information on service trips that his office offers and how to get involved in local services within South Florida.

CAUSE organizes four service trips throughout the year and takes part in local service projects in Broward and Miami–Dade Counties. The organization works with a variety of different agencies that help animals, children and the elderly.
